The Amora brand belongs to Amora Maille Société Industrielle , a company based in Dijon , the capital of the French department of Côte-d'Or .

history

The brand goes back to the vinegar production of François Naigeon in 1703 and has been used since 1756. When Armand Bizouard took over this company in 1919, he had the brand name protected and from then on sold the products under his surname as a trade name. Raymond Sachot , who ran the company between 1931 and 1972, revived the brand in 1934 after Bloomingdale’s trademark protection expired.

At the end of the 1970s, competitors Maille and Amora come under the Gervais Danone umbrella and are merged.

Amora has been part of the Unilever Group since 1999 (purchase price 715 million euros) and is involved in the production of mustard , spicy sauces and related products such as salad dressings. In addition to manufacturing in Dijon, the company also operates plants in Chevigny and Appoigny, among others . All companies are certified according to ISO 9002 . The brand became known in particular for the production of Dijon mustard , which has to be manufactured according to a defined manufacturing process.

On April 1, 2005, the new innovation center was opened in Dijon, where 65 employees from 14 countries are to expand the Amora product range and tailor the products to the different tastes of the individual countries.

The company also ran a museum, the Musée Amora in Dijon , until 2006 .
