Helena Verdel

Helena Verdel (born March 11, 1961 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian-Slovenian journalist and non-fiction author.

Life

Helena Verdel studied political science and theater studies in Vienna and Ljubljana . She has published numerous works on aspects of European theater. In 1990 she published a comprehensive account of the history of the Carinthian Slovenes during the Nazi era . The publication is considered a standard work. Further work on the history of the Carinthian Slovenes in the First Republic followed.

Together with Andreas P. Pittler , Helena Verdel wrote a satirical history of Austria and a travel guide through Europe's health spas. In 2004 she emerged with a compilation of the most important women in Eastern Europe. In addition, Verdel regularly writes reviews, essays and other articles in Austrian and Slovenian media. Verdel is the deputy chairwoman of the Slovenian Cultural Association and a member of the ethnic group advisory board for the Slovenian ethnic group. Verdel is married and lives in Vienna .
