Hans Lietzau

Hans Lietzau (born September 2, 1913 in Berlin ; † November 30, 1991 there ) was a German actor , director and artistic director .

Life

Training and initial engagements

Lietzau broke off his studies in theater and newspaper studies in Berlin and attended the drama school of the Berlin State Theater under Gustaf Gründgens from 1933 to 1935 . Lietzau's first engagements brought him to Kiel , Leipzig and finally to the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1939 .

After the end of the Second World War , Lietzau worked as a director in Bern , Berlin , Darmstadt and at the Hamburg Thalia Theater with Willy Maertens . In 1955 he staged for the first time at the Münchner Kammerspiele under artistic director Hans Schweikart . From 1965 to 1969 he was senior theater director at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel , then, in two stages, from 1969 to the end of 1970, director of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and from 1972 to 1980 director of the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin . He then returned to the Münchner Kammerspiele, where he continued to work as a director under the direction of Dieter Dorn at the time. His last directorial work there was the production of Ernst Barlach's Der Blaue Boll (premiere on March 8, 1991), which was also invited to the 1992 Theatertreffen in Berlin.

Lietzau's productions were invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen three times :

After Dieter Dorn moved to the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel, Lietzau's production of Thomas Bernhard's Der Theatermacher (premiere: December 18, 1988) was resumed at the Münchner Kammerspiele and integrated into the repertoire.

In addition to his activities at the theater, Lietzau also worked as a film and radio play director.

Private life

Lietzau was married to the actress Carla Hagen . With the aim of the artistic estate of her husband make them available to the public subject to change, she left the Berlin Academy of Arts , the bequest as a gift. The legacy comprised several thousand photos as well as documents on directorial work in Vienna , Hamburg , Bochum and Berlin .

Remarks

  1. Lietzau's termination (s) without notice should have reflected or intensified the mood at the Schauspielhaus (since 1963), since one week after Litzau's final declaration, administrative director Gerhard Hirsch committed suicide (at the age of 47) and in a farewell letter justified his imminent step with the "lack of character" felt on stage. - See: After the suicide of Gerhard Hirsch: No end to the Hamburg crisis .
