Life

The daughter of a businessman grew up in Kiel and worked as a draftsman. After training as an actor, she made her debut in Berlin in 1930 as Rosi in Hermann Sudermann's The Butterfly Battle . In the same year she received an engagement at the traveling stage of the German Volksbühnenvereine in Berlin. From 1934 she appeared at various Berlin theaters such as the Theater am Nollendorfplatz , Lessing Theater , Comedy, Kammerspiele of the German Theater , Tribune , Renaissance Theater and Schlossparktheater . Towards the end of the war she was also in charge of the troops at the front. After the war she continued her theater work in Berlin.

Since 1933 it has been used very often in feature films, especially in comedies. She was soon committed to the simple country girl and played, mostly in supporting roles and often with a pinch of comedy, maids, soldiers' brides, wives, housekeepers, secretaries and neighbors. In the post-war film she was able to build on this type of role as a mother or grandmother. Among other things, she played Ida Jungmann in the Buddenbrooks film adaptation from 1959 . She also played in two early DEFA films, namely in Die Kuckucks and as the fun-loving pub owner Emma in Die Buntkarierten . In 1959 she was seen on the screen next to the siblings Willy and Lucy Millowitsch in the Schwank Der Keusche Lebemann by Arnold and Bach in a recording from the Millowitsch Theater . She later gained popularity again as Krösa Maja in the Swedish film and television series about Michel from Lönneberga . In the German version of the cinema versions, however, she was dubbed by her colleague Carola Höhn . In 1989 she received the gold film tape for many years of outstanding work in German film.
