Otto Dennert, also known as “Der Greifer”, is a homicide commissioner at the criminal police in Essen . The gripper is known for its unconventional methods and its contacts with the so-called underworld. He is about to retire when the city is rocked by a series of feminicides. During his investigation into the case, he reaches retirement age and retires. Dr. Schreiber is his successor and is now investigating the woman murderer together with Harry Dennert ("Dennert Zwo"), Otto Dennert's son. Dennert is not convinced of their success, especially since he already has suspicions. With the help of his acquaintances from the criminal milieu who are close to him, he tries to catch the woman murderer even in retirement.

After Ursula Brandt, Harry Dennert's new girlfriend, barely survived an attack by the woman murderer, there is for the first time a witness who could identify him. When she happened to see the photo of Josef Schmitz in a newspaper report, who saved the life of the daughter of Dennert's friend Mücke, she recognized him as the murderer of women. Schmitz is being searched for. He fled and found refuge with the Mücke couple, from whom he now demands gratitude for the rescue of their daughter Evchen. During a visit to Muecke's restaurant, Dennert notices her predicament and alerts his son. Schmitz escapes from his hiding place and holed up, armed with hand grenades, in a kindergarten. Dennert manages to engage Schmitz in a conversation while his son, with the help of Mücke, breaks into the locked kindergarten. When he was arrested, he was shot and was able to throw an ignited hand grenade out of the window. The explosion hits Otto Dennert, who survived the injury.

background

Hans Albers played the role of "grab" the first time in the feature film The gripper of Richard Eichberg of the 1930th

criticism

The lexicon of international films was not very enthusiastic:

"Desperately anxious for tension, overloaded as well as conservative crime film with Hans Albers, which was set to the cliché type of the aging, sentimental hero."

The Evangelical Film Observer comes to a similar assessment :

“Harmless, but not exactly realistic. The style aimed at a little emotion is not for everyone. "

On the other hand, Der Spiegel said on a television broadcast in 1988:

“'The first time, it still hurts,' sings Hans Albers in this film from 1957, three years before his death. Amazingly, the idol here plays a differentiated retired commissioner, not the usual oops-now-come-I-batch. "
