Vicky Merlin was fortunate for a long time, and this life by the side of a loving young man and mother of a beautiful child in wealth has left her very spoiled. But in a short time, two catastrophes hit her: First her husband Fritz died in an accident, then her daughter Antje became the victim of a dangerous sex drive offender. When the man named Wendland is caught, it turns out that he had already murdered two children. An emotional process ensues in which the troubled mother fights for justice, for life after life.

Vicky is all the more shocked that the murderer of her Antje is not sentenced to life imprisonment, but, since he is declared by the court chairman to be insane, is to be sent to an institution for the mentally ill and sex offenders. Out of horror, she shoots Wendland. Now Vicky has to go to court herself, but she is by no means remorseful, and with her lust for combat, born out of desperation and self-mortification, does the defense work of her brother-in-law, the lawyer, Dr. Sparrowhawk, extremely heavy. But she finds a mild judge who understands her act of desperation and, due to mitigating circumstances, only sentenced her to imprisonment for manslaughter in affect.

In the name of a mother , which in later years was also used under the lurid title Drive Criminal , was premiered on September 2, 1960 in the Kassel Capitol Cinema.
