Irms Pauli (born October 2, 1926 as Irmgard Pauli in Wernigerode , † June 16, 1988 in Fulda ) was a German costume designer .
Life
She was the daughter of the lawyer Oskar Pauli and his wife Margarete geb. Hasert, also the daughter of a lawyer in Wernigerode. Pauli completed an apprenticeship as a tailor and completed the master school for fashion in Hamburg . In 1949 she began to work as assistant to the costume designer Erna Sander for Real-Film . In 1953 she was responsible for the first time as head costume designer. In the fifties she designed the clothes for various comedies , film dramas , revue and hit films . In the 1960s she became the most important costume designer in German-language film when she was part of the Doktor Mabuse film series as well as many Edgar Wallace films and Karl May films .
Her most important creation was the uniform clothing of the Karl May heroes Winnetou and Old Shatterhand , portrayed by Pierre Brice and Lex Barker , whose visual appearance had a significant impact on her. Irms Pauli was also involved as a costume designer in other large-scale productions of the time such as The Nibelungs and Battle for Rome .
Since 1961 she also worked for television, where she was particularly concerned with operetta films and series that have played in the past. The most complex project in this regard was the international production Beyond the Dawn (1984). Irms Pauli died as a passenger in a car accident.
