action

The singer Tommy Olsen, the dancer Dixi, the violinist Karli Alten and his sister Gisela, a talented painter, share a studio apartment high above the city. All four are notoriously in financial difficulties. Then Karli received the message from the “Schlosshotel Bernini” that he had been selected for the advertised position of ski instructor. He then performs such a joyful dance that he breaks his ankle in the process . Fortunately, his sister is just as at home on the boards as he is. So she pretends to be Karli and takes the job.

A year ago, the writer Hans Bernini inherited the castle hotel. Because the income no longer covers the expenses lately, he wants to track down the cause incognito . Therefore he pretends to be a guest and becomes Karlis / Gisela's first student. Both are very likeable straight away.

Soon the record mogul Giesemann appears in the hotel accompanied by the singer Anita Mohr. When the two are treated condescendingly by the managing director Rodler, Bernini reveals his true identity and declares Rodler to be guilty of the hotel's decline. Rodler admits that he deliberately run down the company because its owner has not bothered about anything. Bernini is amazed at the openness of his employee, which is why he is allowed to keep his job. From then on, Rodler tries to get the hotel up to date together with his boss. The new "ski instructor" with his painting skills is a great help to both of them.

Gisela is finding it increasingly difficult to hide her femininity. Bernini agrees that she let her brother come with Tommy and Dixi. The new staff is also selected based on musical aspects. From now on, the castle hotel will be called "The Singing Hotel". The inauguration is celebrated with a lavish party. In the process, Bernini learns the true identity of his ski instructor, and both confess their love for each other.

music

The music is from Michael Jary . Numerous songs by him based on texts by Bruno Balz can be heard in the film:

  • Darling your eyes lie ( tango )
  • Do you need a miss for your heart, miss, miss? ( Blues )
  • My favorite dream is my bride (foxtrot)
  • Boy, boy, boy, today we're right ( Boogie-Woogie )

criticism

The lexicon of international films came to the following conclusion: The usual German disguise, confusion and musical lust from the carefree cinema season of the fifties.
