action

Mr. Lambert is a strange and somewhat curious elderly gentleman who lives in a lonely and somewhat enchanted house on a secluded island. For some time now, he's been obsessed with the obsession that someone is trying to kill him. The future murderer is said to be a former childhood friend. Lambert notifies the police with a request for police protection, which then sends the smart inspector Roland. The pipe-smoking officer carefully follows the tracks in the house in the fog, but soon finds out that not everything Mr. Lambert says is true. All sorts of strange incidents soon happened in Lambert's house: First his safe was broken into, then the old family doctor was found shot. When there is another corpse, Roland suspects that he is obviously being misled by Lambert. Because the allegedly threatening childhood friend is himself, and he has long since assumed a new identity under the eyes of the police ...

Reviews

“The film is a curious gem among the Austrian crime films of the post-war period. In an entertaining and charming way, director and author Géza von Cziffra makes use of set pieces from the horror, scary and crime genre and enjoys laying false tracks that seem to end in a dead end again and again. Nothing is as it seems in this thriller: who is threatening the odd Mr. Lambert? Can you trust the quick-witted nurse? But both agree: They imagined a detective inspector to be completely different. "

The lexicon of international films says: "Unsightly imitation of English crime films with slow tension, where only the surprising resolution is of interest."
