Leopold Rudolf
Leopold Rudolf (born May 3, 1911 in Vienna ; † June 4, 1978 there ) was an Austrian actor .
Live and act
After completing his acting training at the Behr Seminar in Vienna, he made his debut at the Salzburg State Theater in 1937 in Gerhart Hauptmann's The White Savior . After engagements in Fürth and Nuremberg, he came to the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna through Rudolf Steinboeck in 1945 , where he was part of the ensemble until 1978. Guest performances have taken him to the Theater am Kurfürstendamm (1955), the Thalia Theater in Hamburg (1966), the Bavarian State Theater in Munich (1972) and the Salzburg Festival (1975). The character actor Rudolf was a specialist in torn personalities and in this sense embodied the main character in Hugo von Hofmannsthal's The Difficult one in 1954 and 1964 .
In the Vienna State Opera he played the speaking role of Bassa Selim in the opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . New production on October 4, 1965 with the conductor Josef Krips , Konstanze Mimi Coertse and Belmonte Fritz Wunderlich .
Leopold Rudolf was rarely seen in the film. He demonstrated his tremendous versatility in roles as varied as “Dorftrottel” Vitus in Cordula (1950) or as old Baron Trotta in the two-part television adaptation of Joseph Roth's novel Radetzkymarsch . He was married to the actress Marion Degler .
In 1955 Rudolf was awarded the German Critics' Prize.
On May 10, 1978, only three weeks before his death, Leopold Rudolf stood as the father in Luigi Pirandellos. Six people are looking for an author for the last time on the stage in Josefstadt; on June 4, he died of severe illness in a Viennese hospital.
He was given a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 57).
