Fritz Walden , actually Friedrich Drobilitsch , also Fritz Drobilitsch-Walden and Franz Drobilitsch , (born January 3, 1914 in Vienna ; † September 12, 1992 ibid) was an Austrian publicist , author and culture editor as well as film , literature , music and Theater critic .

Life

In the 1970s, a cinema hall in the Vienna Urania Fritz Walden was made available for his film analysis lessons at the Film Academy, where films from all times were viewed and discussed every Saturday morning.

Fritz Walden studied German for a few semesters . Since the 1950s he was the culture editor of the Wiener Arbeiter-Zeitung . He took an active part in cultural events, and in 1964 he was, alongside Edwin Zbonek, a founding member of the Association of the Vienna Film Festival, which took over the organization of the Viennale film festival , as it was now called. In the 1970s and 80s he taught film analysis at the Vienna Film Academy, was brought in as a juror at international film festivals such as the Berlinale, and in the 1980s was a member of the film advisory board of the Austrian Film Funding Ministry of Education . In addition, he was a sponsor and mentor of young Viennese filmmakers, whom he sometimes also supported materially. With the first text insertion in the opening credits of the film, Mansur Madavi dedicated his film “Emergency Exit” to him out of gratitude .

He belonged to a generation of critics who made no secret of their passion for the films, plays or operas that were to be reviewed and is often quoted in other media by colleagues or in diploma theses.

Fritz Walden also appeared in films and wrote poetry for contemporary music.

He has two daughters from his marriage to Margarete.
