Walter Fritz (film scholar)

Walter Fritz (* 1941 in Klosterneuburg ; † February 13, 2020 in Vienna ) was an Austrian film scholar.

He studied theater studies, art history and philosophy at the University of Vienna , where he also received his doctorate, and has worked as a lecturer for film and television history since 1970. Likewise at the universities of Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Munich. From 1966 he also worked in the Austrian Film Archive , for which he had already discovered numerous sources and films from the Austrian film past . From 1980 to 1996 he was its director. He was the author of around 30 specialist books on film history.
