Edwin Zbonek

Edwin Zbonek (born March 28, 1928 in Linz , † May 29, 2006 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian film and theater director.

Life

Zboněk began in radio with radio drama productions . Then he was involved in directing work for the theater . From 1960 he worked at the Theater in der Josefstadt , where he directed Eugène Ionesco , Samuel Beckett , Franz Xaver Kroetz , Johann Nestroy and Ödön von Horváth , among others, over the next 16 years . Zbonek was director of the Viennale Festival from 1971 and artistic director of the Theater der Jugend from 1974 to 1988 .

Edwin Zbonek died of complications from pneumonia . He was the father of the copywriter, actor and musician Marcus Zbonek alias Emil Tischbein or Mr. Tischbein
