Otto Untersalmberger

Otto Untersalmberger (born September 4, 1906 ; † December 9, 2001 in Vienna , Austria ) was an Austrian sound engineer with almost three decades of activity in Italian, Imperial German and, above all, Austrian film.

Life

Little is known about Untersalmberger's career. After completing his technical training, he went to Rome, where he had been well employed in Cinecittà since the late 1930s . His specialty was romances and noble snouts, but also operas, operettas and music films with Beniamino Gigli . Some of these films were made in Italian-German co-production as a result of the rapprochement between the fascist regimes of Hitler and Mussolini. In 1940 Untersalmberger finished his Italian interlude and returned to Vienna. There he continued his film work in 1941 with the anti-Semitic, National Socialist propaganda film Vienna 1910 . In a very short time Otto Untersalmberger advanced to become the most important sound engineer in Austrian film , along with his two years older colleague Herbert Janeczka , with whom he was to work several times in the 1950s.

During this time, Untersalmberger worked with the leading directors of his country, including Gustav Ucicky ( The imperious call , Der Seelenbräu , Cordula , The Holy and Her Fool , The Legacy of Björndal ), Géza von Cziffra ( Love for Notes , The Immortal Face , The heavenly waltz , hellish love ), Wolfgang Liebeneiner ( April 1, 2000 ), Ernst Marischka ( Girls' Years of a Queen , Die Deutschmeister ), GW Pabst ( The Last Act ), Josef von Báky ( Fuhrmann Henschel ), Willi Forst ( Women are none Engel, Kaiserjäger , Vienna, you city of my dreams ), again “ Vienna 1910 ” -director EW Emo ( Ober, pay! ), Gottfried Reinhardt ( everyone ), Eduard von Borsody ( I only have your love , romance in Venice ) , Franz Antel ( ... and the robbers pop forever ) and Alfred Weidenmann ( The great love game ). In 1963 Untersalmberger retired from the film industry.

What he did professionally in the remaining four decades of his life is not known. Otto Untersalmberger died at the old age of 95 and was buried ten days later in the Sieveringen cemetery .
