action
Andrea von Bruggern, daughter of a wealthy landowner , is about to marry an impoverished aristocrat who is dependent on the dowry.
On the wedding morning she learns that her groom had cheated on her with his maid Anka and that the maid and the baby have now been expelled from the estate from this relationship. Andrea escapes the wedding and seeks consolation in Venice.
There she met the composer Stefan Schröder, and the two fell in love. When Andrea misunderstood a meeting between the divorced musician and his wife, she, meanwhile pregnant and without his knowing her full name, withdraws to her father's estate.
After about eight years, her father arranged a reunion between Andrea, the composer and the musically gifted child of the two.
