occupation

My niece does not do that is an Austrian hit film by Franz Josef Gottlieb from 1960. Cornelia Froboess plays Susanne Doren, the niece of the famous pop singer Hannes Doren, embodied by Fred Bertelmann , who does not want his niece to follow in his footsteps. The other main roles are occupied by Margit Nünke and Peter Weck .

action

17-year-old Susanne Doren has lived with her uncle Hannes since the death of her parents. He was once a celebrated pop star, but withdrew from the public to take care of Susanne. He is now the director of the record company Phonoton and is discovering new talents. Copywriter Rudi Hundt also visits him one day and is employed as a talent scout. By chance, Hannes meets his ex-girlfriend Clara Larsen again, who works as a music manager. She regularly plays tennis with the well-known private detective Stephan Lentz.

Although Susanne likes to listen to pop music, she pretends to Hannes that she only likes classical music, as he can't stand modern music. Her friend Silvia brings Susanne together with the band around the young Robert who is still looking for a singer. Susanne steps in and plans to appear at a competition soon. In order not to be recognized as a relative of the record producer, Susanne dresses up. During the performance, in turn, she is discovered by Rudi Hundt, who wants to market her as a new star. In her need, Susanne pretends to be Margot Müller. Shortly after her performance, she meets Clara, whom she knows from before. Clara offers her to become her manager. She hopes that Susanne's success will bring Hannes back on stage. During a meeting with Clara, Susanne is mistaken for one of Stephan's customers, but Susanne can keep the detective at a distance with a judo grip. Stephan appears shortly afterwards with Clara and begins to rave about Susanne, who is still with Clara and overhears. Stephan falls in love with Susanne, who introduces herself to him as Hannes' niece. When Stephan makes it clear that he can't stand women artists, Susanne rejects any such ambitions.

Since Hannes is annoyed by Rudi Hundt's previous discoveries, “Margot Müller” is not even allowed to sing to him. Rudi secretly smuggles Susanne and Robert's band into the recording studio and records a track. He plays it to Hannes and he is thrilled. He asks Rudi to find Margot Müller. Since Susanne Rudi did not reveal an address, he went to all 78 Margot Müllers in the city, but had no luck. Susanne, on the other hand, has fallen in love with Stephan and wants to forego a singing career for him. However, Hannes hires him to find the ominous Margot Müller. Susanne, in turn, wants to appear again with Robert's band in order to get them a promised engagement for a music film. At this stage, Stephan sees her and ends the relationship immediately. Susanne is desperate, but now wants to aggressively deal with her desire to become a singer. She registers with the band on the big hit parade broadcast on the radio and sends Stephan a ticket for the show in addition to her blonde wig, which was part of her disguise. Clara arranges for Hannes to be announced as singer on the show poster. He only finds out about it on site and is outraged. Shortly afterwards, he sees his niece on stage, who is sadly singing her hit because Stephans Platz has remained empty. Stephan in turn hears her voice on the radio and drives to the event building on the spur of the moment. When Susanne and her uncle Hannes are back on stage after their performance and sing a duet, he is already in the audience. Because Hannes in turn offered Clara not only the management of the record company Phonoton, but also the marriage, there is a double happy end.
