Herbert Gruber

Herbert Gustav Alfred Gruber (born February 17, 1913 in Vienna ; † January 28, 1999 there ) was an Austrian film producer and company manager, the longtime head of the largest Austrian production company after the war, Sascha-Filmproduktions GmbH.

Life

Gruber had studied law at the University of Vienna, did his doctorate and then worked as a lawyer. Finally, Herbert Gruber was appointed managing director of the Sascha Group. He also served as director of the Österreichische Film-GmbH (ÖFA). Until the production stop in 1965, Gruber produced Sascha films for ten years either as a production manager or as an overall manager (producer). In this position he was responsible for the commercial success of various comedies with Peter Alexander (including the Graf Bobby comedies 1961–65), but also for Willi Forst's last three directorial flops in 1956/57. Sascha Filmverleih sold the highly profitable Sissi films (1955–57). Gruber also held several functionary posts. He was buried at the Ober Sankt Veiter cemetery .
