The Hazy Osterwald Story is a Swiss music film by FJ Gottlieb from 1961.
action
Trumpeter Hazy Osterwald , bassist Sunny Lang and clarinetist Jupp forge plans for their own orchestra in a shabby hotel room. The blonde Yvette and the mannequin Marianne join them. The other band members are soon found. At first there is a lack of everything, especially money. Her friend Nicki, a tourist guide in Zurich, takes over the management. They start on the street and take every imaginable offer in restaurants and night clubs.
The sextet is slowly becoming known beyond Zurich. In the meantime, Hazy has to grapple with love problems. He falls in love with Marianne, while Yvette is interested in him. After a performance in Graubünden, the band got an engagement in Paris, where they were ripped off. On the evening of a performance, Jupp dies of heart problems that he had hidden from his colleagues in order to be able to continue playing. The show cannot be canceled and brings the big breakthrough.
background
For the film adaptation of a biography written by Walter Grieder about Hazy Osterwald , Erwin C. Dietrich won financial support from Waldfried Barthel , whose Constantin film brought a large part of the technical and artistic staff into the production. Sunny Lang , Dennis Armitage , Curt Prina , Johnny Ward and Werner Dies from the Sextett played themselves. Lolita , Bill Ramsey , Rex Gildo , Vivi Bach , Teddy Paris and the Kurt Edelhagen Orchestra and the Lucas Quartet were signed up for guest appearances.
The shooting lasted from April to July 1961. Nino Borghi built over thirty sets of the interior scenes in the Salmen film studio in Schlieren as well as in the Wolfbach journeyman's house and in the Albisgüetli rifle house in Zurich . The exterior shots were taken in Zurich, Arosa , Paris and London .
The premiere took place on August 18, 1961 in the Apollo cinema in Zurich . The film was released in German cinemas on September 1, 1961 under the title Musik ist Trumpf . The total costs of 1.4 million francs could not be brought in.
Reviews
"On the proven line of autobiography, film-making invention and a little sentimentality."
