That knocks down the strongest twin is a German comedy of mistaken identity by Franz Josef Gottlieb from 1971.
action
The civil servant Peter Werner lives separated from his wife Grit, a fashion photographer. Their twin daughters also live separately: Gaby grows up with her father in Munich, while Ulli with her mother in London. One day Grit has business to do in Munich and wants to bring Ulli with her too. Peter pretends that all the hotels in the town are fully booked so that Ulli and Grit can stay with him. However, since Peter saw a black cat go from right to left one day, almost ran over three nuns and broke a mirror, he is now unlucky. Lots of things go wrong and when Grit has to go to work in the middle of a planned romantic dinner, Peter gets drunk uninhibited. A resignation from his boss makes the measure full. Together with his top tenant, Wondrak, who is also drunk, he writes a letter riddled with insults to his boss. Peter wakes up the next morning completely hungover and, standing next to him, orders his two daughters to deliver the letter to the post office. When he is sober again, he tries in vain to get the letter back. Among other things, he breaks into the post office and disturbs three real burglars when they break. In the end, the three simple-minded men leave the money behind and flee with several sacks of mail. A short time later they stand in front of Peter's door and ask him for "their" money back.
Ulli and Gaby meanwhile make fun of their same appearance, so the English ace Ulli takes the linguistically inexperienced Gaby in class and promptly receives a 1. In love there are also doubles, so Gaby is swarmed around by Udo and Michael and so goes Ulli ends up dating Michael, while Gaby goes out with Udo. It was only Peter's hint that revealed the duplication and reconciled the two rival boys. Peter, on the other hand, also has to struggle with duplication, so although he has a mistress in the singer Peggy, he is now drawn back to his ex-wife Grit. She, in turn, seems to have found an admirer in her boss Hugo.
In the end, everyone arrives one after the other in Peter's apartment, which has already been seized by the three intruders. They want to find the money with Peter and threaten to stab him. Each time the doorbell rings, the three hide. First Peggy appears, then Grit, then Peter's secretary with a clerk who wants to pick up the original notice to Peter, since it was meant for another Mr. Werner in the company. Soon afterwards, the teacher Richard, the clerk's jealous lover, Hugo and Peter's boss and Ulli and Gaby appear. In a chaotic fight with the burglars, not only do the three criminals go down, but Peter too. Peter's twin brother Ferdinand now appears, congratulated by Peter's boss: He has long wanted a strong-willed man to head his company and that is exactly what he showed him with the fateful letter. Ferdinand, supposedly Peter, is appointed director of the company. When the chaos subsides, Peter wakes up from his impotence. He greets his twin brother, who also managed to put Peggy to flight, and makes up with Grit. Both become a couple again and a big family with Ulli and Gaby.

criticism
For film-dienst , Das knocks the strongest twin to “stupid slapstick, including a crime parody and drama film, in between samples from the hit market of the early 1970s.” “That knocks the strongest viewer,” commented Cinema briefly.
The magazine Filmecho / Filmwoche , on the other hand, wrote: “That doesn't knock Peter Weck down.” With junk film sprinkles, “this hearty folk piece benefits from the popularity of school clamor.” Ilja Richter is “a splendid talent who is stupid again as a cinema boss and let off steam ”.
