history
The first production by Paul Löwinger and Lisa Film in 1965 was Das Mädel aus dem Böhmerwald . In 1967 Karl Spiehs initially took over 50 percent of the shares in the company and became the sole managing director. In the mid-1970s, he became the sole owner of the production company.
From the beginning, films were made with actors and pop singers who were well known at the time, as well as soft erotic films, westerns, thrillers and crime novels. In 1968 the film Always Trouble with the Timpani was a box office success. Help, I love twins , one of the first so-called “Wörthersee films”, was produced in the late 1960s . Films with Rudi Carrell , Wencke Myhre , Chris Roberts , Gunther Philipp , Theodor Lingen and Ilja Richter were made in the 1970s . The film adaptation of the erotic novel Josefine Mutzenbacher under the title of the same name with Christine Schuberth in the leading role became particularly well known .
In the 1970s, Karl Spiehs founded his own film distributor "Residenz-Film". In addition to the productions of Lisa Film, foreign productions were also brought to the cinema. However, the company had to be closed in 1981 and the “Tivoli” rescue company was founded, which was led by Karl Spiehs and Herbert Kloiber . This film distributor also sold international productions in addition to its own.
In the 1980s, films such as the pirate station Powerplay , Die Supernasen , Zwei Nasen tanken Super and Die Einsteiger were produced with Thomas Gottschalk and Mike Krüger in the leading roles. At the end of the 1980s / beginning of the 1990s, Lisa Film's business activities increasingly shifted to other film and television genres. The production company developed the TV series Ein Schloß am Wörthersee with Roy Black and, after his death, with Uschi Glas in the lead role for a German private broadcaster , which was sold with a total of 34 episodes in more than 40 countries.
In 2014 a documentary was produced for the first time: “Austria - Above and Below” with Joseph Vilsmaier as director, Michael Niavarani as speaker and Hubert von Goisern as composer of the film music.
Other actors who took part in Lisa film productions included a. Catherine Deneuve , Stewart Granger , Bud Spencer , Telly Savalas , Larry Hagman , Michael Winslow , David Hasselhoff , Heinz Rühmann , Ernest Borgnine , Maximilian Schell . Well-known directors were u. a. Franz Josef Gottlieb , Rolf Olsen , Franz Antel , Otto Schenk , Helmuth Lohner , Peter Weck, Otto Retzer. Some directors also wrote the scripts, the busiest writer was Erich Tomek .
Further development of the company
In 1995 the company headquarters was relocated from Munich to Velden. The Munich location was retained, however, as "Event Filmproduktion GmbH".
Lisa Film has been owned by the Karl Spiehs Private Foundation since 2016, which continues his life's work. Under the direction of Michael Kraiger, the focus is on the digitization and evaluation of the existing film material.
In addition, Lisa Film regularly appears as a co-producer on various productions from the archive of self-produced and purchased material. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Karl Spiehs and Lisa Film in 2017, the documentary Jedermann Loves Karli Spiehs was produced together with ORF and Melodie TV .
In 2017 there was an appreciation of the life's work of Karl Spiehs and Lisa Film by the Filmarchiv Austria , which in addition to the organization of a one-week retrospective in Vienna's Metro Kino also published a special volume from the series “Film History Austria” under the title “Wörthersee & Exploitation”. The Postmodernism changed the view of pop culture phenomena.
