Michael Niavarani (born April 29, 1968 in Vienna ) is an Austrian cabaret artist , actor and author .

life and career

Michael Niavarani, son of a Persian and a Viennese, made his first appearance in 1983 in Max Frisch's Die große Wut des Phillip Hotz and already had successes with Raimund and Nestroy pieces in the BRG Wien VII, Kandlgasse . He was a member of the Graumann Theater from 1986 to 1992 , where he trained as an actor with Michael Mohapp and Dany Sigel . He became known, among other things, with the television program Wer lacht, wins with Ossy Kolmann .

Niavarani is the author of many revues for the Simpl cabaret , where he first appeared in 1989 and became its artistic director in 1993. He can also be seen again and again in movies and TV series. Since September 2004 he has been a regular guest at the ORF comedy quiz What's new? .

His cabaret program Encyclopaedia Niavaranica at the side of Thomas Mraz premiered on March 2, 2008 at the Simpl cabaret.

In May 2009 Niavarani took over the protection of honor for the VOBIS association as part of the SozialMarie for one year .

Niavarani has been working as a part-time journalist since October 2010: Under the title Niavarani's Relevant Questions , he interviews (in questionnaire form) celebrities such as Christina Stürmer , Thomas Glavinic or Robert Palfrader for an Austrian Internet news portal . The 41 questions range from philosophical elements (“Are you sometimes afraid that you will have to answer for your actions on earth somewhere else?”) To intimate areas of life (“How big is the difference between your real sex life and yours sexual fantasies? ").

From 2011 to 2013 Niavarani succeeded Felix Dvorak as artistic director at the Festival in Berndorf (Lower Austria) .

At the turn of the year 2012/2013 Niavarani appeared alongside the Munich cabaret colleague Monika Gruber in the Wiener Stadthalle with the Best of Both program .

In 2014 Niavarani and Georg Hoanzl founded "Niavarani & Hoanzl GmbH", which operates the newly founded Globe Vienna theater in the Marx Halle in the former slaughterhouse area in Vienna-Landstrasse . The first production was Richard III's Incredible Tragedy. (Direction: Vicky Schubert , book: Michael Niavarani), a reworking of the tragic play as a comedy based on the original by William Shakespeare . With Romeo & Juliet - No happy ending without death , the second production in the same genre followed in March 2016. In 2014 Michael Niavarani, Helen Zellweger and Georg Hoanzl also founded Schultz & Schirm Bühnenverlag . Helen Zellweger is the managing partner.

In 2019 Niavarani acquired the Simpl cabaret, and in the 2019/20 season he will return to Simpl as artistic director.

Awards

In 2006 Niavarani won the Golden Romy as the most popular male series star, in 2007 and 2008 as the most popular cabaret artist. In 2011 he was voted the funniest Austrian in the TV show Austria chooses ...

In 2012 he was awarded the book favorite in the fiction category for The early worm has a bird . In 2013 he received the Johann-Nestroy-Ring of the city of Bad Ischl.
