The Rasthaus der Cruel Puppet is a German-Italian gangster film that was shot in 1967 in Trieste and the surrounding area under the direction of Rolf Olsen . The black and white film produced by Lisa Film ( Munich ) and Bruno Ceria Stabilimenti Cinematografichi (Trieste) premiered on June 6, 1967.

action

The rogue couple Betty Williams and Bob Fishman try to rob a jewelry store in Glasgow . The plan fails and a policeman is killed. Bob manages to escape, Betty is caught and to ten years in prison convicted. The harsh prison conditions made Betty a tough and bitter person after just a few months. After being moved to a new cell, she learns that Bob works as a waiter under an assumed name in a rest house on the coast. When Betty is seduced and whipped by the guard Francis Nipple, another gruesome murder takes place. Betty can acquire the cell keys and escape with four other inmates.

The five fugitive women break into a department store to get new clothes. On their escape, they shoot an undertaker. When she arrives at the rest house, Betty realizes that Bob initially doesn't want to know anything about her or the past. Still, he helps the women to go into hiding in the property's barn. When the owner of the rest house discovers the hiding place, he too dies.

In order to get enough money to flee England, the women decide to kidnap the rich Marilyn Oland and demand a ransom of £ 20,000 from her husband. But the plan fails because the man is not interested in the liberation of his neurotic wife and even uses the situation to murder her in cold blood. In the meantime, the women in the rest house have got rid of the witness Mrs. Twaddle. When a married couple arrives at the rest house, the women and Bob kidnap his sick child. There is a dramatic escape from the police, at the end of which Bob and Betty die.

History of origin

For producer Karl Spiehs, Das Rasthaus der Cruel Puppen was the first production with Lisa Film. After the end of Intercontinental-Film he originally wanted to found a new company, but at Paul Löwinger's request he took over his already existing, no longer active Lisa Film, with whom Löwinger remained his silent partner for about ten years. With this first film, the bankruptcy of the Italian co-producer had to be coped with after just four days.

The director Rolf Olsen had already staged the film In Frankfurt the nights are hot in 1966 , which developed into a commercial success in the wake of the sex and crime film wave. After the completion of this film, preparations began for the no less lurid film The Rest House of the Cruel Puppets .

The shooting of the German-Italian co-production took place in 1967 in Trieste and the surrounding area. The buildings came from the film architect Nino Borghi . Vittorio Galiano was responsible for the special effects .

Film music

The soundtrack was composed by Erwin Halletz . The tracks Dirty Angels (theme music) and A New Day were sung by Don Adams and appeared on a single on the Ariola label. The title Blue Dreams , published on the CD Erwin Halletz - German Film Composers Part 8 , cannot be heard in the film.

synchronization

Since it was a co-production with actors who were partly foreign languages, the version was completely dubbed . As a result, some German-speaking actors can be heard with different voices.

reception

publication

The FSK released the film on May 12, 1967, from the age of 18. The film, which premiered on June 6 of the same year, was later cut. The version of the DVD released in 2004, which is released for ages 16 and over, is around seven minutes shorter than the cinema version.
