Help, relatives are coming is a German comedy of mistaken identity by Franz Josef Gottlieb from 1971.

action

Student Helmut receives a surprise visit from his shrill-quirky aunt and her daughter Renate - the aunt thinks Renate and Helmut are a couple, but Helmut is actually engaged to Ingrid. Since aunt and cousin are secretly staying overnight with Helmut, the annoyed landlady puts all three of them in front of the door. Helmut, who works in the supermarket while studying, meets the landlady Ms. Schwalbe, who is looking for a tenant for a large granny flat in the countryside. Since the new tenants are supposed to be married and Helmut has had enough of living in the run-down apartment of his crazy friend Peter, Helmut and Ingrid marry without further ado and move into the unfurnished but large apartment.

The couple need furniture but have no money. Helmut is entitled to part of the profits from his uncle Herbert's toy factory, but only when he is married. The couple can't tell Herbert that, because his wife still believes in a relationship between Helmut and Renate. Peter wants to help and secretly sends a supposedly harmless telegram to Helmut's uncle Herbert Bussard as well as to Ingrid's enemies Theo and Beppo in Helmut's and Ingrid's name - “Super apartment in the country is waiting longingly for furniture”. Uncle Theo, who is currently looking for an apartment, thinks Ingrid has found an apartment for him, so he travels with all his furniture and stays in the apartment. Because of a mix-up, he thinks Ingrid and Peter are a couple. Helmut, in turn, initially believes that Ingrid would cheat on him with Theo, and later that Ingrid is really with Peter. Other relatives appear: Chief forester Uncle Beppo didn't know what “super” means and travels with his three dachshunds because he believes Ingrid is in trouble. When he meets his enemy brother Theo, there are arguments. And the Bussard family also appears, whereby Renate falls in love with Peter and her mother still thinks she is with Helmut.

After a great chaos, which is made worse by Bübchen, Mrs. Schwalbe's grandson, everything clears up. Ingrid and Helmut are reconciled and spend their honeymoon in Uncle Beppo's forester's house. Since the relatives get along well, they also come to visit there. Even when the couple end up taking refuge in the deepest snow on a mountain, they cannot save themselves from their devoted relatives.

The lexicon of the international film called help, the relatives come as a "humorless story of confusion according to the German slang scheme".
