Herbert Janeczka

Herbert Janeczka (born June 18, 1904 in Vienna ; † December 23, 1988 there ) was an Austrian sound engineer who was the leading representative of his profession in domestic entertainment film for thirty years.

Life

The Viennese merchant's son studied at the Technical University in Vienna (degree: Diplomingenieur ) and then, from 1928 to 1934, worked as an assistant at the Institute for Technical and Scientific Cinematography at the Technical University.

In 1934 Janeczka was hired by the film production company Sascha as sound engineer. In this function he was involved in a number of popular entertainment productions, later also for other companies, until the end of the war in 1945. In 1946 Janeczka was appointed administrator of the former Reichsrundfunk GmbH in St. Florian , Upper Austria - a position he held for almost six years. He then returned to active film work as chief sound engineer.

Janeczka has worked for all the important filmmakers in Austria. In addition to a myriad of simple comedies, he also oversaw elaborate and popular prestige productions by respected veterans such as Géza von Bolváry ( Magic of Bohème ), Erich Engel ( Hotel Sacher ), Willi Forst ( Viennese girls ), Karl Hartl ( Path to the Past ), Kurt Hoffmann ( Three men in the snow ), Josef von Baky ( Dunja ), Ernst Marischka ( Sissi films), Paul Martin ( wedding night in paradise ) and Wolfgang Liebeneiner ( Schwejks flail years ).

At the age of 60 he retired from the cinema.
