Das Nachtgespenst is a German crime film fun drama from 1953 by Carl Boese with Hans Reiser and Liselotte Pulver in the leading roles.

action

In the small English town of Blackmoor the "Union of Millionaires" holds a congress. In order to guarantee the integrity of the wealthy participants, numerous private detectives are hired as security guards. Despite this massive protective presence, a clever gang of crooks called "The Night Ghost" manages to crack the hotel safe and steal considerable sums of money. This now calls the lively housekeeper Trixie, who loves to devour detective novels for her life and has only been waiting to finally experience an exciting adventure herself.

Trixie immediately gets to work and investigates on its own. She is joined by a young up-and-coming author who has already achieved some fame as a crime novel writer Conny Cooper. In fact, the two get on the trail of the thieves, and finally they manage to break the gang and put their members, including the somewhat dumb guys Ladislaus and Gustav, under lock and key. Trixie is presented with a generous reward and has also won the heart of Conny Cooper.

Reviews

In Der Spiegel you can read: "The unsteady director Carl Boese let himself be infected by the nimble charm of his star Liselotte Pulver and conducted this criminal grotesque light and voluminous, extremely rarely letting go of the fuss."

The lexicon of international films says: “The comedy parodies hackneyed motifs and plot stereotypes in crime films. Undemanding, but more imaginative and played more lively than comparable German films of the 50s. "
