Max Walter Sieg (born May 7, 1904 in Halle (Saale) , † June 7, 1968 in Berlin ) was a German actor and theater director .
Life
Max Walter Sieg attended grammar school and began to play theater in the 1920s. At first he worked at such obscure small venues as the social hygiene stage in Berlin. In the 30s he was mainly active in Hanover (Deutsches Theater, Schauspielhaus). During the Second World War, Sieg found employment primarily at the Komödienhaus Berlin; in the last season of the war (1943/44) he was a member of a small guest theater (touring theater).
After the Second World War, Sieg played at the Theater am Besenbinderhof Hamburg and until 1953 at the Hamburger Kammerspiele . He then went to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg for two years , where he worked as “Willie” in Ulrich Becher's Feuerwasser , as “Szulski” in Franz Pühringer's Abel Hradscheck and his wife , as the shepherd “Kuoni” in Schiller's Wilhelm Tell , as “ Just ”in Lessing's Minna von Barnhelm , as“ Ratt ”in Tennessee Williams ' Camino Real and as“ Baron von Gondremark ”in Jacques Offenbach's Parisian life . In 1955 he switched to the Junge Theater in Hamburg, later the Ernst Deutsch Theater , as an actor and stage director .
Since the early 1950s, Sieg was often seen in film and television productions. His first film appearance took place in 1951 in the Austrian drama The Stolen Year with Oskar Werner and Ewald Balser . In the following years he played in various films such as the Heinz Rühmann comedy No fear of large animals , in the crime film Confession in private with Hildegard Knef , in Wolfgang Schleif's Abbe biography Made in Germany - A life for Zeiss with Carl Raddatz in the Leading role as well as in the Edgar Wallace crime thriller Die toten Augen von London , in television productions of plays such as Vern Sneider's Die Geisha des Captain Fisby and in adaptations of literary sources such as Émile Zolas Thérèse Raquin and Franz Kafka's Das Schloß . In the television series Gestatten, mein Name ist Cox , Sieg played a recurring role alongside Günter Pfitzmann . He also worked extensively as a speaker for radio plays and film dubbing .
Sieg was married to the opera singer and singing teacher Else Schürhoff (1898–1960). The daughter Ursula also works as an actress. Siegs great niece is the American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Houtzeel .
