Charlotte Niemann

Charlotte Niemann (born March 8, 1915 in Hamburg ; † November 20, 2013 ), born Lotty OBL Timm , was a German director and composer .

Niemann grew up in Hamburg. Her mother and her parents worked as artists and mimes making music . Her great grandfather owned a standing circus in London. At the age of 11, Niemann was already performing live on Nordische Rundfunk AG in a children's program, playing the zither . As a half-orphan, she received state scholarships for her musical training until she graduated from high school. Before the Second World War she married the painter and graphic artist Walter Niemann; the marriage has two sons.

Niemann lived in Worpswede from 1940 to 2007 . She worked as a director and composer and between 1950 and 2002 produced several hundred children's radio plays as well as a series of original sound reports for adults for Radio Bremen . She received various prizes for her children's radio plays, in which she was responsible for the text editing, the music and the direction. Many of their children's radio plays were produced in co-production with the sound carrier industry and in this way were also marketed as records, tape cassettes or compact discs.
