William Steig
William Steig (born November 14, 1907 in New York City , † October 3, 2003 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American cartoonist and children's book author. He is the father of jazz flutist Jeremy Steig .
Life
He never wanted to grow up, which he expressed in over two dozen children's books . Before that, Steig had become the king of cartoons . The New Yorker bought his first drawing in 1930, and 117 covers followed. The Picasso lover achieved his greatest success at the beginning of the nineties: Steig invented the green, bad-tempered monster Shrek , which later became the hero of a very successful cartoon series. Shortly before his death, his celebrated picture book on the story of creation , written in 1984, was reissued: Yellow and Pink . Despite all the fame, children remained his favorite customers.
