Roger Duvoisin
Roger Antoine Duvoisin (born August 28, 1900 in Geneva , † June 1980 ) was an American author and illustrator. He was known for his children's books.
Life
Duvoisin was born in Geneva . He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. After marrying Louise Fatio , a Swiss artist, they both moved to New York City in 1925 . There he dealt with fabric printing for the fashion industry. In 1929, his company declared bankruptcy. Inspired by drawings by his son, he began writing children's books. Duvoisin became a US citizen in 1938.
Louise Fatio wrote and Duvoisin illustrated the picture book Happy Lion in 1954 . 9 more volumes in this series followed until 1980. The happy lion won the first German Youth Literature Prize in 1956 .
Duvoisin continued to write and illustrate the successful picture book series about the goose Petunia and the hippopotamus Veronika.
