The happy lion
The Happy Lion is a picture book for children by Louise Fatio published in the USA in 1954 . The illustrations are by her husband Roger Duvoisin .
The happy lion lives in a zoo in France and everyone loves him. When one day the cage door remains unlocked, the lion goes on an excursion into the city. He wonders why all the people who have visited him are afraid of him. The fire brigade moves out to catch him. Then Franz, the guard's son, comes and brings him back to his cage.
The book was translated by Regina and Fritz Mühlenweg and won the German Youth Literature Prize in 1956 .
