action

Councilor Warrenheim, a passionate plant lover, moves with his daughter Hansi and his gardener Valentin, with the help of the chance acquaintance Theo, who is interested in Hansi, in the neighboring house of the animal lover Adele Hecht and her maid Lisl. According to Adele, this property was actually intended for her step-niece Irma and her potential fiancé Theo. You get along pretty well at the beginning, even play skat together and greet each other over breakfast outdoors. However, when Adele's poultry, who allegedly owns a Siamese duck with whom she wants to start breeding and who only lays one egg each year , eats Warrenheim's plants, a neighborhood dispute begins, especially since the gardener Valentin used the duck's egg that was laid on the property line Breakfast served. In the course of the dispute, one insults one another and tries to bring an action in court.

Hansi and Theo (who is actually supposed to become engaged to his cousin Irma according to his aunt Adele's will), who have grown closer in the meantime, are divided by a misunderstanding (his friend Gottfried had to accompany Irma home after a joint dance evening with Theo's motorcycle without him Knowledge borrowed and received a ticket). On the way to the atonement from the local teacher, Theo learns about this motorcycle story.

The appointment, which was moved to the classroom because of the large number of witnesses, began turbulent with mutual accusations. Theo can win back his Hansi through a contribution that is not relevant to the matter . When the lay judge seems to be in despair, the duck he brought with him lays another egg, which is generally regarded as a miracle and contributes to general reconciliation. Three couples leave the room: Adele and Warrenheim, Theo and Hansi, and Lisl and Valentin.
