Ernst Wilhelm Fiedler

Ernst Wilhelm Fiedler , also EW Fiedler , Ernst W. Fiedler and E. Wilhelm Fiedler (born June 10, 1905 in Berlin ; † April 7, 1960 there ) was a German cameraman and film director .

Live and act

The son of a mechanic initially worked as a film screening assistant and soon as a projectionist himself. In 1925 he became a camera assistant of Fritz Arno Wagner . After several years in this position, he was the first cocameramann at Bruno Mondi's side in the 1933 film Gypsy Blood . Since 1935 Ernst Wilhelm Fiedler was the first cameraman.

Until 1938 he made mainly short films, repeatedly with Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt . Already here and then in full-length films he often worked with director Erich Engels . After the end of the Second World War, he joined DEFA in 1947 and was on the staff of director Wolfgang Schleif several times .

In the 1950s he directed three times himself. In 1951 he took over this task for the first time from director Hans Heinrich , who had been arrested on suspicion of espionage. His two other productions were the bat film Rauschende Melodien (1955) and the racing driver film Rivals at the Wheel (1957). In 1951 he received the National Prize of the GDR III. Class.
