Don't be afraid of mothers-in-law is a German film by Erich Engels from 1954.
action
Martin Hoffmann is an employee of the tobacco company Günzlow, in which there are many pretty girls, especially the chief secretary Renate Winter, who has an eye on him. That in turn annoys his girlfriend Gisela Steinberg, who now simply tells that she is pregnant. So she wants to bind Martin even more tightly. He is very open-minded about the planned wedding, he loves it too. Only Mathilde Steinberg, Gisela's mother and the caring wife of the music professor Steinberg, is against getting married because she sees no future for the two of them due to the low income. Due to the lie with the expected child, however, she agrees. Since the young couple does not yet have their own apartment, they have to live in a furnished room with their parents. Martin is disturbed by the piano lessons his father-in-law gives, but the constant interference of his mother-in-law is much more annoying. So you have to look after your own apartment pretty quickly and move. But now what is happening is what the mother-in-law foresaw. You can't start a household with Martin's income. The beautiful furnishings could only be bought in installments. The debts grew over their heads and the bailiff was not long in coming.
During a conversation between Gisela and her friend Lily, she finds a way out of the precarious situation that Martin doesn't need to know about. A stocking manufacturer friend called Mayer is looking for mannequins and also pays very decently. So it did not take long and Gisela brought home the first 50 marks she had earned herself and gave it to Martin. So that he didn't worry, she told him that it would be a lottery win. He still believes in the approaching rattle stork and, to Gisela's horror, buys a used stroller without thinking about the still outstanding furniture payments. But when Martin then learns where the money really comes from, also that the offspring are not there yet, and on top of that, her behavior towards the stocking manufacturer suggests more intimate connections, his collar bursts and Gisela moves back to her parents. The next step is to become a divorce lawyer.
At first she likes the role of the offended diva, but then she realizes that the love for her husband is very strong. She secretly goes back to her own apartment to bring about a reconciliation. She had suffered from the thought of a lonely, unhappy man and now finds Renate Winter with him. Gisela rushes off again, offended again. But Renate had only come to see if something was going well. Not entirely without help from the smaller Giselas siblings, the two get together again and are really expecting a baby.
