Werner Bochmann (born May 17, 1900 in Meerane ; † June 3, 1993 in Schliersee ) was a German hit and film composer .

Life

After attending secondary school in Meerane, he began studying chemistry at the Technical University in Dresden in 1919 . But his enthusiasm for music was stronger. He studied music with Joseph Gustav Mraczek and Franz Schreker and then toured Europe as a pianist in the folklore ensemble Orchestra tipukta by the Argentinian José Soler .

Bochmann's first compositions were published by Irving Berlin after German music publishers rejected them. His first printed piece was I Called to Say Good Night (1929). In 1933 Bochmann began to work for UFA . He composed the music for over 120 German and international sound films as well as entertainment, dance and stage music. His best-known pieces include Heimat Deine Sterne (Text Erich Knauf ) from the film Quax, der Bruchpilot (1941) and Gute Nacht, Mutter , sung by Wilhelm Strienz . During the war he composed the music for a total of 42 films, including several state-commissioned films to raise the morale of the troops. He also made records with his tango orchestra for Columbia Records . Bochmann discovered, among other things, the singing and whistling talent of the actress Ilse Werner .

Werner Bochmann's grave

Werner Bochmann lived in Schliersee for over 50 years until his death . His grave is in the cemetery of the parish church of St. Sixtus . Schliersee honored him in 2002 by naming a street in his name and attaching a commemorative plaque.

Since May 2011 there has been a permanent exhibition in his hometown of Meerane on the life and work of Werner Bochmann.
