action

The angel once drove people out of paradise with the flaming sword. Now they threaten, so the film wants to insinuate, to finally fall victim to sin in their earthly existence. Two of the human “sinners” are called Jürgen and Helga Marein and are married to each other in the young Federal Republic. Two children have sealed their happiness. One day a terrible suspicion arises, which is supposed to lie over her love like a shroud: the public prosecutor has received a complaint. It is claimed that Helga and Jürgen are actually supposed to be siblings and that both marriage are therefore incest . A world collapses for the young couple.

Your life is now completely out of joint. Helga is so desperate that she wants to take her own life. At the last moment she can be saved. Jürgen then decides to flee abroad with his family, but his plan is thwarted and Jürgen arrested. Only a friend of Jürgens can bring light into the darkness by reporting the delicate case to the press, which brings the story to the public. She tries to find Helga's mother, an artist. That Gitta Binder had previously believed that her daughter was no longer alive. She gives the name of Helga's father and can thus help to clarify the situation. Helga's and Jürgen's marriage can continue.

Reviews

In Der Spiegel you can read: "A decent fate, directed by Gerhard Lamprecht in places played very discreetly and intensely (Gertrud Kückelmann, Maria Wimmer), but at the same time a problem and time film of the dishonest, undecided kind."

The lexicon of the international film says: "Clever film adaptation of a sensational novel that was widely read in the 1950s, which exploits latent fears related to the time to sell a colossal drama as a problem film."
