The Girl and the Public Prosecutor is a German crime and society melodrama filmed in 1961 with Wolfgang Preiss and Elke Sommer in the title roles.
action
Renate, who was still a minor, had a relationship with Jochen Rehbert, who was only slightly older. When he visits her at home with her mother overnight, it attracts some attention from narrow-minded and morally sour neighbors, who then accuse Renate's mother of pimping . The public prosecutor Soldan, who sees himself as the guardian of public morality and civil decency, sees to it that mother Hecker has to be accused and sent to prison for a year. Renate Hecker does everything possible to get her mother released as soon as possible. In her distress, she turns to Soldan personally and asks him, face to face, for mercy before justice.
Soldan, too, is only a man and quickly begins to succumb to the charms of the attractive and around 30 years younger blonde. The public prosecutor found Renate a job, made her his lover and enabled Hecker's mother to be released early. Now the married, well-to-do lawyer threatens to fail because of his own morals and values. One day a youth carer catches him with Renate in a highly precarious situation. Soldan's marriage and legal career seem ruined. He then has to quit his service, mother Hecker, who was released on the mercy path, is put back behind bars.

Reviews
Paimann's film lists summed up: "Although neither for the first time nor free of spreadsheets, but in a solid reporting style with mostly well-managed actors and batches on the front and back stairs in a direct and visually dynamic way."
"Silly dime novel with a clear tendency to be potty."
“Colportage drama about the morale morals of the Adenauer era. Conclusion: Dusty, interesting as a contemporary document. "
