Georg Alexander ; actually Werner Louis Georg Lüddeckens (born April 3, 1888 in Hanover , † October 30, 1945 in Berlin ) was a German actor , director and producer .

Life

Georg Alexander was the son of the actor Georg Lüddeckens and his wife Martha Amalie, geb. Bohde. After his acting training he had his first employment at theaters in Halberstadt , Hamburg , Hanover and from 1914 in Berlin. In 1915 he took part in his first film. In 1917 he and his wife, the Norwegian actress Aud Egede-Nissen , founded the production company “Egede-Nissen-Film Comp. mbH ”, which published around 30 films by 1919. Alexander mostly directed it himself. Their son Georg Richter became a well-known actor himself in Norway.

In 1919 he founded his own film company "Alexander-Film GmbH" to produce sports films. Alexander was active in sports himself and in 1921 set a record in the high jump on horseback with 1.85 meters.

Georg Alexander appeared in detective and other entertainment films. He was very popular with contemporary audiences. His roles were often gentlemen or noblemen, as in Reinhold Schünzel's comedy The English Marriage (1934), where he appeared alongside Adele Sandrock . He acted in over 160 films.

From 1928 Georg Alexander was married to the film agent Ilse Brach for the third time. He died on October 30, 1945 in Berlin. His grave at the Wilmersdorf cemetery in Berlin-Wilmersdorf was closed in 1960.
