Paradise in the Snow is a German-Swiss silent film from 1923 by Georg Jacoby with Bruno Kastner in the leading role.

action

St. Moritz in the winter sports area in Switzerland. When the professional skier Edwin and the young Konstanze learn that the train they were expecting has got stuck in the middle of a snowdrift, both strap their skis under their feet to head towards the train. While Konstanze actually wanted to pick up her cousin Bob from the train station, Edwin was waiting for his fiancée Mara Andersen. But before you reach the stopping point of the train, it has already started up again and is heading towards the terminus. When Mara learns that Edwin is racing through the snow with Konstanze instead of picking her up, she immediately believes that he is cheating on her with the strange woman. But Edwin can quickly dispel all their foreboding when he returns to the winter sports paradise. Konstanze, on the other hand, has now gotten a taste for it and actually tries to seduce Edwin during a ski maneuver, the so-called fox hunt. Mara arrives promptly and surprises both of them in a misleading position. In a mixture of anger and shock, the young woman runs away and promptly plops into a snow hole.

Suddenly the elegant Morris, a middle-aged man, appears who has had an eye on Konstanze for some time. He frees Mara from her predicament and brings her back to the village. What Konstanze can do, I can too, Mara thinks, and now begins to instrumentalize Morris in the hope of making her fiancé Edwin a little jealous at his side. When several winter sports guests go on a trip into the snow-covered mountains, Morris and Edwin immediately get into each other's hair. In the process, Morris loses his footing and slides down into a crevasse. Edwin doesn't care about the injured man and gives himself up to the carnival bustle back in the valley. Finally, his conscience pinches and he confesses to Mara that he left Edwin helpless. Konstanze, who was unable to land with Edwin, notices this, then goes to the police and tells the culprit. But suddenly Morris appears again - safe and sound. Konstanze gives him a big hug and the two couples make peace with each other in Lugano.

criticism

Paimann's film lists summed up: "The main strength of this film are the beautiful winter sports scenes, the photographic execution of which can be described as very good. The same applies to the studio shots. The subject is somewhat harmless and poor in conflicts, but otherwise quite appealing, the presentation is satisfactory. "

"... mindless in every way ..."
