action

Hotel owner Carola Lorn is a revue star in South America . Her daughter Barbara fell in love with a man from Hamburg , of all people, whose father, the fruit wholesaler Schmitt, does not believe in marrying his son to the dancer's daughter, whom he disparagingly describes as a “jackdaw”.

When the young lovers run away, Carola Lorn follows them to Hamburg. Drug smugglers who take advantage of Carola's artist status hide drugs in their luggage in order to smuggle it into Germany unhindered. Since the crooks are already in the focus of the police and some of their connections to South America are known, Carola is now suspected of belonging to the smugglers' ring. Thanks to a detective who fell in love with her, she was able to convict the real drug dealers, who briefly took hold of Carola and demanded the smuggled goods from her, which, however, were already in the possession of the police. Finally she manages to change the mind of Barbara's lover's father by playing him a comedy with her acting talent. She had learned from one of her employees that she had an affair with this very Karl Schmitt many years ago. She takes advantage of this and appears disguised and unannounced as his allegedly illegitimate daughter in the Schmitt's villa, just as Karl Schmitt is about to announce his son's engagement to the daughter of a business friend. All attempts to prevent Carola from appearing, which is extremely embarrassing for him, fail. The future in-laws and their daughter leave the party indignantly, Karl Schmitt's wife wants to get a divorce and his secretary runs away from him. The son, Heinz Schmitt, uses this to smuggle in his great love Barbara under a false name as his father's new secretary and thus convince him of her qualities.

Carola Lorn, who does not want the Schmitt family to be personally harmed by her intervention, explains Karl Schmitt's wife about her comedy and the background to it. Bertha Schmitt is downright amused by this and thinks that her husband should still suffer a little. Out of gratitude, she helps Carola to find a new theater for her group of artists who had followed her dance star to Germany because her old theater in South America was closed. At the premiere of the new revue, Carola breaks up the whole comedy and Karl Schmitt is happy to have such a nice daughter-in-law in the end.

Reviews

  • Film sheets : “ Evergreen Marika Rökk in her best post-war film. "
  • Film-Dienst : “ Overloaded revue entertainment enhanced with a few parodic glamorous acts, in which Marika Rökk pulls out all the stops of her dancing skills. "

The critics at Prisma.de judge: "The night before the premiere" is a typical 1950s dance film with Marika Rökk, the queen of the light muse, who can be seen here in a prime role: she slips into a singer, dancer and actress half dozen different roles and pulling out all the stops of their ability. The musical highlights include the performances of Louis Armstrong and Helmut Zacharias. "
