action

Maria Hartung is married and loves her husband and child with all her heart. As a lover of classical music, one day she invited the talented pianist van der Straaten to her apartment to give her a small private concert. When Maria's husband comes home, he completely misunderstands the situation and assumes that his wife is cheating on him. The high-ranking husband of the gods throws his wife out of the house in a rage. Left on her own, Maria van Straaten follows a concert tour to America.

But the pianist lets her sit there, and so Maria has to try to keep her head above water with plain work. Eventually she finds a job in the Lunapark on Coney Island . Maria meets a certain Pablo Fuentes with whom she finally returns to Europe. Fuentes turns out to be a pretty bad guy and tries to use his knowledge of Maria to blackmail her husband in Germany. Maria then kills the villain. Then she returns to her husband, takes poison and dies at his feet.

Reviews

“It is the eternally repeating story that the woman completely neglected by the man seeks distraction and with the best character traits is nevertheless considered reckless. The woman’s path in life becomes sloping when the man, with rigid correctness, condemns her unheard. Pola Negri, who is usually assigned demonic roles, has warm tones for the misunderstood and rejected woman, which evoke equally warm sympathy. Due to this characteristic and the technical advantages, this work can count on a strong public success. "
