Albert Patry

Albert Patry (born March 1, 1864 in Elbing , West Prussia , † November 26, 1938 in Berlin ) was a German theater and silent film actor .

Life

Patry made his theater debut in Jena in 1882 . In 1883 he went to Heidelberg , in 1884 to Guben . In 1886 he was the founder of the new city theater in Halle (Saale) , where he played from 1885 to 1888. In 1889 Albert Patry went to the German Theater in Berlin. The East Prussian later worked at other theaters in the capital, such as in 1900 at the Schiller Theater in the production of Hermann Sudermann's play Das Glück im Winkel . He was praised by the critics for his play by Freiherr von Röcknitz. In the following year (1901) Patry moved to the Berlin Lessing Theater . Other patry roles were Petruchio in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew , Consul Bernick in Ibsen's Supports of Society and the bath doctor Dr. Thomas Stockmann in Ein Volksfeind , also by Ibsen.

Then he was acting director at the Prussian State Theater in Berlin and head of the drama school of the Royal Theater in Berlin. Henny Porten passed her entrance exam there, Ernst Waldow failed.

At the age of 65 he began a career in film. He made his debut in 1919 in the film Crucify Her! directed by Georg Jacoby . He also played a supporting role under the director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau in the film The Burning Field . In the 1920s he worked in various films for various production companies, but never got beyond supporting roles.

Albert Patry died on November 26, 1938 in Berlin at the age of 74. His wife was the actress Maria Reisenhofer , with whom he also starred in several films, such as in Die goldene Krone .
