Orlow is a German silent film love comedy from 1927 by Jakob Fleck and Luise Fleck . Vivian Gibson and Iván Petrovich play the leading roles. The film is based on the operetta of the same name by Bruno Granichstaedten and Ernst Marischka .

action

Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich was robbed of a magnificent diamond, the “Orlov”, when he had to flee Russia from the Bolsheviks . In the West he has made a living as a pilot in an aircraft factory run by two bizarre guys, Messrs. John Walsh and Jolly Jefferson. The Grand Duke takes great pleasure in his compatriot Nadja Nadjakowska, a sophisticated and seductive dancer who also ended up here from Russia.

One of the two aircraft builders doesn't find this funny at all, since he himself shows interest in the lady, while his partner has to deal with a rather ugly admirer, his secretary Dolly Marbanks. Finally, another Russian appears, the fake Grand Duke Alexander, who once stole the fat clunk from the real high nobility. As usual in an operetta, everything becomes clear in the end: Everyone gets the woman who suits him, like Alexander Alexandrowitsch his Nadja, or who he deserves (like one of the aircraft manufacturers the Dolly now blossomed into true beauty). The long-fingered Russian exile and false grand prince, however, has to return the gem and is sent to prison.

Production notes

The Orlow was made in July and August 1927 in the UFA film studios in Neubabelsberg and on the outdoor area near the film studio in Staaken. The film passed the censorship on September 22, 1927 and measured a length of 2553 meters, divided into six acts. A youth ban was issued. The premiere took place on October 6, 1927 in Berlin's Beba-Palast atrium.

Jacques Rotmil designed the film structures.

criticism

In the Austrian Film-Zeitung it was said: “The couple of directors J. and L. Fleck have definitely achieved their best performance here, Ivan Petrovich, an excellent representative of the species of film actors, is predominant in the portrayal ... Fortunately Vivian Gibson also finds the opportunity to to show their artistic skills in addition to their beauty. Bruno Kastner as a false grand prince gave an excellent salon appearance ”.
