Walter Ulfig
Walter Ulfig (born July 13, 1901 in Breslau , German Reich ; † June 29, 1979 in Kleinmachnow , GDR ) was a German composer and film composer .
Live and act
Little is known about Ulfig's origins and career at the moment. After completing his professional training at the beginning of the 1920s, he wrote a number of hits and came across the then silent film in the middle of the same decade. He composed the original cinema music for numerous productions. Ulfig initially worked for various smaller production companies and set to music around 40 feature films by the end of the silent film era.
The Lower Silesian made the transition to sound film late, and after a few compositions for full-length feature films (until 1936), Ulfig was mainly engaged for short films. In the last years of peace his compositions were mostly accompanied by short documentaries. Drafted in the Second World War, Walter Ulfig returned to film music immediately after 1945, but since then has only worked for DEFA documentaries and GDR television films. After retiring at the age of 60, Ulfig spent the rest of his life in Kleinmachnow, where he also died.
