Alpentragödie is a German silent film drama from 1927 directed by Robert Land with Lucy Doraine and Wladimir Gaidarow in the leading roles. The story is based on the novel of the same name (1909) by Richard Voss .

action

Somewhere in the Alps: the painter Sivo Courtien falls into the clutches of the beautiful Countess Josette da Rimini, who literally throws herself at him. When he saved the noblewoman from mortal danger, he fell for her with skin and hair. Only late does he realize that the countess has a bad character and thinks only of herself. When he, nervously at the end, is tied to the bed, shaken by illness, it is the loyal, loving and well-behaved alpine maid Maria who devotedly takes care of him.

Her friendship with Sivo is stronger than the love spider web that Josette threatens to throw over the artist, who is gradually recovering. When the countess, who simply does not want to give up, tries to gain access to the painter again, Maria stands in front of the door with a rifle and denies her entry. Then, as the final dramatic climax, there is an apparent death before true happiness in the form of Maria and Sivo find each other and climb up into the mountains together.
