The Mamelabou River (also: Hodges River ) is one of the longer rivers in northern Dominica in the Parish Saint Andrew .

geography

The Mamelabou River rises in the northeastern foothills of the Morne Diablotins . The highest springs are located at 700  m above sea level . The headwaters border on the catchment areas of the Hampstead River (west) and Toulaman River (Tweed River, east), whose headwaters arise even higher in the Morne Diablotins. In its course, the river grazes the catchment areas of the Pentou River , Duece River and Salec River (west), and Woodford Hill River (east). The source streams unite in the Never Fail area , pass the Grand Bambou (290 m) in the east and run in a north-easterly direction through Fond Hodge , Big Cedar and Hodges Estate . From Morne Ramiers and Champagne in the southeast, more streams flow in from the right and a small stream flows into Hodges Estate from the left and east. At Hodges Estate, the river runs along Mount Sylvie and flows east of Pointe Baptiste in Hodges Bay after a distance of 9.4 km into the Atlantic . In its upper reaches it runs through the Northern Forest Reserve .
