geography

The Hampstead River has a number of source streams. These arise in the Morne Turner Ridge and in the northern flank of the Morne Diablotin . The highest springs are 1000  m or 800  m above sea level , partly in the immediate vicinity of the sources of the Picard River . The streams flow steadily to the north and merge in the area of Chaudiere Estate , where further streams from Foundland and Ti Branches flow in from the left and east. At Chaudiere Estate, the river has already reached heights of less than 200 m and runs along the Hampstead Ridge, passes Morne Sampson and Hampstead , where it turns again to the east and shortly before the confluence in Hampstead Bay takes in the Pentou River . In the lower reaches the Anse du Mé River runs to the west , in the headwaters the catchment area of the Blenheim River and Bras de Fort River connects to the west , while the catchment area of the Mamelabou River (Hodges River) connects to the east . In its course it crosses a large part of the Northern Forest Reserve . Number One Beach stretches east of the estuary , and the Chaudiere Pool at Chaudiere Estate is a popular romantic swimming spot.
