Louis Ralph

Louis Ralph (actually Ludwig Musik ; born August 17, 1878 in Graz , † September 16, 1952 in Berlin ) was an Austrian actor , screenwriter and film director .

Life

The bricklayer's son completed an apprenticeship as an actor at the age of 15 and from 1894 appeared as "Ludwig Musique" at various smear theaters , including in 1896 in Ehrenhausen and 1897 in Hartberg . He received his first permanent engagement at the Reichenberg City Theater .

Before the turn of the century, he went on a tour of Russia with the actors' troupe of Franz Jauner . A little later, with an English ensemble, he came to India, Japan and China. In 1909 he gave a guest appearance for the first time in Berlin at the side of Hansi Niese , and a year later he was again acting in Berlin as the main actor of the Viennese art theater.

He took up an engagement at Victor Barnowsky's Little Theater and came to his first film role in 1911 in The Foreign Bird , where he had Asta Nielsen as a partner. Ralph became a well-known actor in the field of adventure and crime films, especially in a series of films about the crime king Lepain, which he directed himself.

In the course of the 20s he gradually got only supporting roles. As a director he transfigured the fate of the German cruiser Emden in Our Emden in 1926 . Ralph was also the main actor in this film in the role of Captain Karl von Müller . In 1932 he brought out a sound film version under the title Kreuzer Emden and in 1934 a particularly propagandistic new version under the title Heroism and agony of our Emden . As an actor, Ralph has only made tiny appearances in recent years and earned his living as a private secretary.
