action
Albert Freiherr von Bingern stands on the ruins of his existence. Outclassed as a career officer, he wants to emigrate to the United States. In order to top up his capital stock for a new beginning, he got involved in a game with the violinist Paul Hess ... and promptly lost. To compensate for the gambling debt, the baron leaves the violinist, as he has a rather dubious existence, his ring, which identifies him as a baron. When Bingern boarded the ship to America, he suggested to Hesse, in a fit of gallows humor, to swap their entire existence and left Paul with his documents that identify him as a nobleman. According to Baron Bingern, they might be of use in another life. Obviously, Baron von Bingern intended to put an end to his life during the crossing, in any case he throws himself into the Atlantic waters at full speed and perishes in it.
But Paul Hesse, the new Freiherr von Bingern, now wants to really get started with his new existence. He is a crook through and through and, with a false title and little money, beguiles the women in rows: he ensnares his quarter wife until he has squandered her entire fortune, and the chambermaid of Baroness Buchhorst, where he is supposedly one of her class takes up, is seduced by Paul Hess alias Albert of bingers and then left sitting. Then the woman beggar wraps the widowed baroness around her finger. But during the engagement party with the real noblewoman, Paul receives the just punishment: the little son of the neighborhood woman has discovered him and notifies the police. Believing himself at the goal of his dreams, namely entering high society, the pocket-sized Casanova is led away during the celebration.
