Elizza La Porta , born as Eliza Streinu (born March 1, 1902 in Craiova , Romania , † November 15, 1997 in Los Angeles , California , United States ) was an active German film actress .

Live and act

Born Eliza Streinu, she received four years of acting and singing training in Romania. She then hired a Dutch film production company to move to Amsterdam . A year later she settled in Berlin . Apart from a few extras, Streinu, who called herself Elizza La Porta, initially remained largely unemployed. La Porta received her first speaking role through production manager and actor Max Maximilian in 1926: In Henrik Galeen's new film The Student from Prague , she played Lyduschka at Conrad Veidt 's side. In the remaining four years of silent film , Elizza La Porta was seen with leading roles in a plethora of minor cinema films, both comedies and dramas and melodramas.

The Romanian was no longer offered any roles in the sound film. Since her husband Siegfried Pinkus was a Jew, she was finally excluded from the film business in 1933. The chance to get hold of a role at the side of her friend Heinz Rühmann in the comedy Der Mustergatte in 1937 was lost. The Pinkus couple then decided to emigrate to the USA. In October 1940 both reached New York City , where they first settled. Then Eliza and Siegfried Pinkus, US citizens since 1946, moved to Los Angeles. Despite its proximity to Hollywood , Elizza La Porta never returned in front of the camera .
