The officer's son studied art history and trained as an officer candidate at the military academy . After the First World War , he thought a military profession made little sense and decided to become an actor.
After taking acting lessons in Graz and Berlin, he made his debut at the Olomouc Theater in 1919 . From 1920 he played at the Trianon Theater in Berlin. In the same year he appeared for the first time in silent films and soon became a frequently used supporting actor. At first he embodied gallant young lovers, later noble gentlemen of better society. In The Man Who Sherlock Holmes Was , he acted as a crook who was impressed by the Sherlock Holmes demeanor of a detective ( Hans Albers ). In Berlin he also became a member of the Masonic Lodge Victoria .
In total, Hardt took part in around 180 feature films and in numerous television productions. In the series Royal Bavarian District Court he appeared several times as Count von Haunsperg. Finally he intensified his theater work again.
